Features: The world-renowned Three Gorges Project began storing water in June 2003. In the future operation process, whether it can effectively control pollution in the reservoir area and protect water quality is one of the key technologies and public concerns regarding the Three Gorges Reservoir. This book is a systematic summary of a research project completed over eight years by the author and their research team through collaborative efforts. It presents the most systematic and up-to-date findings on the water environmental impact of the Three Gorges Project and water pollution control issues. The book comprehensively and systematically proposes methods and calculation schemes for predicting water quality in the Three Gorges Reservoir and calculating its environmental capacity. Based on this, it predicts changes in water quality in the reservoir area before and after the construction of the Three Gorges Project, recommends a comprehensive environmental capacity scheme for the Three Gorges Reservoir, and provides valuable references for water pollution control in the reservoir. The main contents include: conducting detailed synchronous observations and surveys to predict basic water environmental data in the reservoir area (including hydrology, water quality, and pollution load); using overall one-dimensional, local two-dimensional, and three-dimensional hydrological and water quality mathematical models to comprehensively calculate and predict the water quality status of the reservoir before and after the completion of the Three Gorges Project under typical hydrological years (high, medium, and low flow). Based on the actual conditions of the reservoir area, the book proposes a functional zoning of water areas in the Three Gorges Reservoir, sets overall water quality and bankside water quality protection targets, pollution control indicators, and control concentrations, calculates the overall water environmental capacity and bankside water environmental capacity of the reservoir, and proposes a comprehensive environmental capacity scheme for the Three Gorges Reservoir as well as specific pollution control and prevention strategies. It also develops and designs an information management system for water pollution in the Three Gorges Reservoir, providing technical support for water environmental management decisions. The achievements of this book have been nominated for the First Prize of the 2005 National Science and Technology Progress Award by the Ministry of Education. This book is suitable for researchers, managers, and graduate students engaged in water resource protection and water environmental research (especially in the Three Gorges Reservoir area). Readers interested in the Three Gorges Project and its water environmental issues can gain authoritative and scientific information from this book. The main contents include: conducting detailed synchronous observations and surveys of basic water environmental data in the reservoir area; using overall one-dimensional, local two-dimensional, and three-dimensional hydrological and water quality mathematical models to comprehensively calculate and predict the water quality status of the reservoir before and after the completion of the Three Gorges Project under typical hydrological years (high, medium, and low flow), etc.
