Patient's question:
Last year, when I was about four or five months pregnant, I was thirsty and drank a lot of water every day. I checked my blood sugar, and it was normal. Now that the baby is three months old, I'm still very thirsty. I've also checked my blood sugar and blood routine, and they are both normal. The doctor said it's internal heat, and even after taking Chinese medicine, it hasn't helped. What could be the reason?Doctor's answer:
Thirst, excessive drinking, generally falls into three situations. Type 2 diabetes has already been ruled out for you. The third is diabetes insipidus. This condition typically involves drinking 5,000 to 10,000 milliliters of water daily, and it is often associated with a history of head trauma. An MRI of the head can be performed to check if the pituitary gland has been injured. If neither of these conditions is present, it is usually psychogenic polydipsia, meaning there is no organic inflammation causing it. For example, office workers who frequently drink water may develop a habit of drinking more and more.
