Just three months after giving birth, my ALT and AST levels were high. What could be the reason?

Patient's question:

Doctor: I just gave birth to a child. I had a thorough check-up for three months before, and my liver function was normal. Now, my ALT is slightly elevated, and so is my AST. However, other liver tests are fine. Only these two are abnormal. Could you please advise on the possible causes?

Doctor's answer:

I'm very happy to help you solve your problem. There are many reasons that can lead to abnormal liver function, such as common cold and fever, drug-induced liver injury, fatty liver, autoimmune liver disease, and various viral hepatitis, among others. It is recommended to further improve blood routine tests, hepatitis markers, and liver ultrasound to identify the cause. Currently, it is important to avoid overexertion, overtime work, and taking medications that can harm the liver. You may consider taking liver-protective and enzyme-lowering medications as appropriate.
