Features: This book's research is based on the perspective of urban sociology, aiming to explore the causes of various crises and problems in urban development through the study of urban residents and their relationship with urban development. The author believes that urban residents are the main body of cities, so the crises and problems that arise in urban development must be closely related to them. Urban residents are undoubtedly the fundamental driving force behind urban development, but at the same time, they are also a major reason for urban crises and problems. The reason why urban residents, to some extent, become "obstructive factors" in urban development stems from certain subjective defects inherent in them as the main body of cities, such as their disregard for the environment in "practical behavior," group conflicts and sharp antagonism in interests brought about by stratification, the "professionalism" of their social roles and their pragmatic personality, and their confusion in urban development concepts. Some of these defects of urban residents are "inevitable" products of the process of urban formation, while others are "abnormalities" born of industrial civilization; some defects may represent progress compared to rural areas, but for the future development of cities, they become "obstacles." To a certain extent, these subjective defects of urban residents have become an important reason for the emergence of various crises and urban problems.
