Literary masterpieces present a rich world, with vivid and concrete images, intriguing plots, and complex social dynamics, helping young readers observe people, relationships, and society, and gain insights into life. Unconsciously, they receive the key to their hearts. The beauty of literature and language in these masterpieces is like a refreshing spring that nourishes the soul. Young readers have limited knowledge and time, making it difficult to read the full texts of many literary masterpieces. This abridged edition, with illustrations and helpful annotations, would be a welcome gift. When reading this book, it is important to first understand the main characters and what kind of people they are. For example: Little Paul and Esther, young people from poor backgrounds whose minds were corrupted by the so-called "aristocratic upper class," were used as tools for revenge by the upper class and were ultimately not accepted by high society; Joe and Biddy, despite some behaviors that the upper class considered coarse and ridiculous, were kind, self-sacrificing, and helpful, embodying the excellent qualities inherent in the working class. Moreover, Lofty also had a kind, sincere, and compassionate side. His crime was a tragedy caused by the unequal social system. In contrast, Miss Havisham took revenge on society for personal grievances, sacrificing others' youth to fulfill her so-called revenge, which was a selfish and despicable act. Secondly, one must recognize that one must be down-to-earth and not indulge in unrealistic fantasies or empty dreams. More importantly, one must not abandon one's integrity for profit, losing one's nature and reason under the temptation of money, material possessions, and status. Otherwise, one may be deceived, make great mistakes, and destroy true happiness.
