What is the reason for pain during coitus with excessive leukorrhea?

Patient's question:

I used to have a lot of white discharge, which was white for several years. Later, it turned yellow. During the last time we had sex, it was painful and there was bleeding. Eating spicy food causes some pain in my lower abdomen. What is this disease? I’m too scared and embarrassed to go to the hospital for a check-up!

Doctor's answer:

The formation of normal vaginal discharge in women is related to the effects of estrogen. It appears as a white, paste-like or egg-white-like substance, which is a viscous material without odor, irritation, and slightly acidic.
If the quality and quantity of the discharge change, such as an increase in volume or changes in color and odor, it is considered pathological vaginal discharge. This occurs due to certain reasons that disrupt the normal environment of the vagina or as a result of certain gynecological diseases (such as inflammation of the reproductive organs, etc.). Generally, pathological vaginal discharge can be classified into the following types:
1. Egg-white-like or white watery discharge. It may appear normal but in increased quantity. Attention should be paid to whether it is caused by endometrial hyperplasia, ovarian dysfunction, or vaginal adenosis. Additionally, systemic diseases such as anemia, diabetes, or weakened physical conditions in women may also lead to this type of discharge.
2. Yellow or yellow-green purulent discharge. It has a foul odor and is mostly caused by vaginal inflammation, with trichomoniasis being the most common. It is often accompanied by itching and pain in the external genitalia and vagina.
3. Cottage cheese-like or curd-like discharge. This is a typical symptom of candidiasis (yeast infection) of the vagina.
4. Watery discharge, resembling rice water. If it has a strong odor, it should be a cause for concern.
5. Blood-stained discharge.
You may have a vaginal infection.
It is recommended to undergo a discharge test.
