Postpartum vaginal bleeding at 42 days

Patient's question:

Why is there still blood in the vagina 42 days after childbirth?

Doctor's answer:

Postpartum day 42, vaginal bleeding still occurs. Vaginal bleeding exceeding 500ml within 24 hours after fetal delivery is referred to as postpartum hemorrhage. Postpartum hemorrhage includes three periods: from fetal delivery to placental delivery, from placental delivery to 2 hours postpartum, and from 2 hours to 24 hours postpartum, with the majority occurring in the first two periods. Clinically, it manifests as sudden and heavy bleeding from the birth canal or persistent small amounts of bleeding, with severe cases potentially leading to shock. It may also be accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, sleepiness, loss of appetite, diarrhea, edema, milk stagnation, hair loss, and chills.
