Features: This textbook is compiled based on the Basic Requirements for University Physics Teaching in Non-Physics Majors of Science and Engineering Programs announced by the Ministry of Education. It systematically elaborates on the fundamental concepts, theories, and methods of university physics. The first volume contains two parts: Mechanics and Electromagnetism, including topics such as the kinematics and dynamics of point particles, fundamentals of rigid body mechanics, an introduction to fluid mechanics, special relativity, charges and electric fields, current and magnetic fields, electromagnetic fields, and Maxwell's equations. The second volume consists of three parts: Thermodynamics, Vibrations, Waves, and Optics, as well as the Fundamentals of Modern Physics, covering topics such as the fundamentals of thermodynamics, the kinetic theory of gases, the fundamentals of vibration, the fundamentals of waves, geometrical optics, wave optics, quantum physics, nuclear physics, an introduction to particle physics, solids and molecules, astrophysics, and cosmology. Each chapter is accompanied by reading materials, thought-provoking questions, and exercises, with answers to the exercises provided at the end of the book. The core content of the entire textbook is based on the A-type knowledge points of the basic requirements, with selective and appropriate extensions of the B-type knowledge points. This ensures both the teaching content and facilitates teachers in conducting instruction step by step. Additionally, the selection of materials emphasizes the explanation of modern theories, focuses on the forefront of physics, highlights physical imagery, and minimizes mathematical derivations. The textbook also considers the needs of bilingual teaching by adding English annotations for physical quantities and physics terminology. This textbook features a systematic theoretical framework, comprehensive explanations, and an appropriate level of difficulty, making it suitable as a teaching material for university physics courses in non-physics majors at ordinary higher education institutions with 120-140 teaching hours. It can also be used as a reference for teachers and students in related fields.
