Patient's question:
My girlfriend has a history of menstrual cramps for many years. Is there a way to cure it? If not, what methods can alleviate the pain! Thank you all, please help!Doctor's answer:
Hello: Menstrual pain can be cured. Do not have too much psychological pressure.Anyone who experiences lower abdominal pain during or around the menstrual period, which affects work or health, is referred to as "dysmenorrhea." Dysmenorrhea can be divided into two types: primary and secondary. For secondary dysmenorrhea, etiological treatment should be administered. For primary dysmenorrhea, when the pain is severe, "atropine" 0.5 mg can be administered intramuscularly, or symptomatic treatment can be provided using pain relievers such as "aspirin." Progestogen therapy can also be used, such as taking "norethisterone" 2.5–5 mg or "medroxyprogesterone" 4–8 mg orally once daily, starting on the 5th day of the menstrual period, and continuing for 22 days, with a 3-cycle course. Additionally, "progesterone" 10–20 mg can be administered intramuscularly once daily, starting 7 days before the onset of menstruation, and used for 5 consecutive days. Estrogen therapy, such as taking "ethinyl estradiol" 0.5–1 g orally once daily, starting on the 6th day of the menstrual cycle, and continuing for 20 days, can also be selected.
Prevention of Dysmenorrhea:
Actively participate in physical exercise, such as qigong, tai chi, or disco for middle-aged and elderly people. During the menstrual period, pay attention to keeping the abdomen warm, avoid exposing your feet to cold water, and refrain from cold baths or working in water. Also, pay attention to daily routines to prevent the invasion of cold pathogens. Avoid eating cold, sour, acidic, river clam, or snail dishes, which are cooling in nature, before or during the menstrual period. During menstruation, prevent mental tension by listening to relaxing music or watching entertaining TV shows. Avoid overexertion and maintain a calm and composed mood to ensure smooth blood and qi circulation, thereby reducing pain. Strengthen nutrition and consume easily digestible, nutrient-rich foods. During the menstrual period, sexual activity is absolutely prohibited.
