Features: The Tao Te Ching is a book written by Laozi. The greatness of Laozi lies in the greatness of the Tao Te Ching, and the greatness of the Tao Te Ching lies in its brief five thousand words, which have inspired countless thousands of words of interpretation from later generations, leaving it forever unfinished. The Tao Te Ching lacks the rigorous logic and dialectical language of Western classical philosophy; it is not like the illusory and romantic nature of Buddhism, another Eastern classical philosophy; nor is it as practical and straightforward as Confucianism, another classic of Chinese culture. It is a unique philosophical expression born from a unique way of thinking, and it is "greatly unlike." Therefore, during the considerable historical period before and after Laozi's time, the Tao Te Ching was not as prominent as Confucianism and Buddhism. Yet today, more than two and a half to three thousand years after Laozi, the study of the Tao Te Ching has become highly prominent, has stepped beyond its borders, broken out of Asia, and reached the world. Although the Tao Te Ching is great, I still believe it is the greatness of a specific historical period, the greatness within the known scope, and a greatness driven by subjective desire. The teachings of the Tao Te Ching aim to propagate the natural, the effortless, and the acceptance of fate, requiring people to be desireless, wise to a lesser extent, gentle, and yielding. In Laozi's time, when civil wars were frequent and wars were devoid of justice or injustice, the Tao Te Ching did indeed hold significant meaning in reducing conflict. However, this significance was only relevant within the limited perspective of China, not in the broader context of other ethnic norms, and was merely a matter of subjective desire.
