How to determine if you are pregnant

Patient's question:

I had sexual intercourse with my husband on the 11th of last month. My menstrual cycle is usually quite regular, occurring around the 23rd, but this time I haven't gotten my period yet. I've been a bit stressed at work recently and haven't been getting much rest, but I've been trying to adjust for the past five or six days, and still nothing has happened. However, I always feel something is off with my body—my lower abdomen occasionally feels bloated and a bit painful. Now I easily feel lower back pain, fatigue, and have no appetite. My mouth always tastes like nothing, and it seems quite different from many early pregnancy symptoms. I just want to ask what's going on with me—is it possible I'm pregnant? Thank you!!!

Doctor's answer:

If your menstrual cycle is usually regular, then if you experience a missed period that lasts more than 10 days, you should consider the possibility of early pregnancy.
Early Pregnancy Symptoms: Around 6 weeks after a missed period caused by early pregnancy, symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, dizziness, sleepiness, and cravings (e.g., for sour foods or aversion to greasy foods) may occur. These are accompanied by varying degrees of nausea and vomiting, which are typical early pregnancy symptoms.
Early Pregnancy Symptom: Frequent Urination: Early pregnancy can also lead to uterine enlargement, which compresses the bladder, resulting in frequent urination. As the uterus continues to grow and moves beyond the pelvic cavity, the symptom of frequent urination may disappear. Therefore, frequent urination is one of the key indicators for diagnosing early pregnancy.
Early Pregnancy Symptom: Breast Tenderness: After conception, estrogen and progesterone stimulate the breasts to enlarge and become tender, with small nodules appearing on the areolas. Pregnancy can be detected as early as 7 days after conception. We recommend using a pregnancy test kit for self-testing. If you still have doubts, you can repeat the test.
