Features: Yang Liansheng, styled Liansheng, studied at Tsinghua University's Department of Economics in his early years and completed his graduation thesis, "From Zuyongtiao to Liushuifa," under the guidance of Professor Chen Yinque. He then went to the United States, studied at the Department of History at Harvard University, and obtained both master's and doctoral degrees. He subsequently remained at Harvard to teach. In the 1950s, he was elected as an academician of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. He authored works such as "Annotations to the Food and Taxation Records of the Jin Shu," "Lectures on Special Topics in Chinese History," "A Concise History of Chinese Currency and Credit," "Studies in the History of Chinese Institutions," "Miscellaneous Notes on Sinology," "Collected Essays on Sinology," and "The Meanings of Bao, Bao, and Bao in Chinese Culture." Among the writings that discuss his life and scholarship, the most detailed are undoubtedly the works by his friend, Professor Zhou Yiliang, titled "China's Overseas Mediators in Culture." The former is published in the sixth issue of Chinese Culture, while the latter appears in The Times Weekly issues 309 and 310. They are also included in the author's collected essays published in Taipei and Shanghai, titled Still Remembering the Fish That the Wind Stirred on the Water and Qian Mu and Chinese Culture, respectively.
