Considering the practical needs of classroom lectures and students' self-study time, the entire book selects one thousand poems (including ci and qu, etc.), aiming to reflect the outstanding achievements of classical Chinese poetry to a large extent. Each poem is accompanied by a brief biography of the author and annotations. The book is divided into two volumes. The first volume consists of two parts, covering poetry from the Zhou Dynasty to the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, with a total of 550 poems, edited by Lin Geng. The second volume also consists of two parts, covering poetry from the Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty to the May Fourth Movement, with a total of 450 poems, edited by Feng Yuanjun.
