My baby's movements are there for a few days and absent for a few days, what's going on?

Patient's question:

Hello! I have been pregnant for more than five months. I heard that fetal movement is about 3-5 times per hour. Sometimes the fetal movement is very obvious, but sometimes I can't feel it for several days. Is this a problem with the baby's development? Is it because I sit in front of the computer for too long?

Doctor's answer:

Count the fetal movements once in the morning, noon, and evening, each time for one hour. Then multiply the total movements from the three hours by four (which equals the number of movements in 12 hours). If the count is less than 20, has decreased by half compared to before, or if the movements are frequent combined with abnormal changes in the fetal heartbeat, it may indicate that the baby is in danger. In such cases, you should seek medical attention immediately. If the 12-hour fetal movement count exceeds 30, it means the baby is doing well.
When counting fetal movements, it should be done in a quiet and focused state. The baby is most active between 8-9 PM, generally active from 8 AM to noon, and least active between 2 PM and 8 PM.
Additionally, it’s best to limit time spent in front of the computer, as the radiation can affect the fetus, and prolonged sitting may also impact a smooth delivery. Engage in more activities, listen to music, read books, and consider doing some prenatal education. This way, the pregnancy will pass quickly. I did the same, and now my baby is already 10 months old. Wishing you a healthy and smooth delivery of your baby!
