Features: Chemistry is a natural science based on experiments, focusing on the relationship between the composition, structure, and properties of substances, as well as the laws and regulatory methods of material transformations. In the compulsory education stage, inquiry experiments hold a significant position. This is not only necessary for constructing basic chemical knowledge and learning fundamental skills but also for understanding and researching the processes and methods of chemical changes, as well as for enhancing scientific literacy. Therefore, inquiry experiments are not only one of the key contents of the chemistry curriculum in compulsory education but also a major focus of the junior high school entrance examination (JSEE). Learning and studying chemistry cannot be separated from inquiry experiments. To help junior high school students master chemical experiment knowledge, develop experimental operation skills, and enhance their ability to analyze and solve chemical experiment problems as well as their inquiry skills, we have organized experienced teachers from curriculum reform experimental areas such as Wuhan and Yichang to write this book, Inquiry Experiments in Junior High School Chemistry. It can serve as a reference book for students learning junior high school chemistry, a resource for JSEE review on chemical inquiry experiments, and even a reference book for teachers conducting inquiry-based experiments.
This book is divided into three parts: "Safety in the Chemistry Laboratory and Inquiry Elements," "Inquiry Cases," and "Comprehensive Training." It provides readers with information on chemical laboratory safety, basic chemical experiment operations, and the content of scientific inquiry, offering a distinctive explanation of how to understand and carry out scientific inquiry activities. The book presents 25 carefully designed inquiry cases. Each case includes examples of the inquiry process and provides readers with ideas for further inquiry activities. Additionally, it links to junior high school entrance examination questions from various regions in recent years (especially 2005).
The third part of the book, organized around inquiry experiments, consists of seven sets of comprehensive training questions. These questions follow the content standards for scientific inquiry, (substances around us), the mysteries of material constitution, chemical changes, and the development of chemistry and society as stipulated by the Full-Time Compulsory Education Chemistry Curriculum Standards issued by the Ministry of Education. Readers can use this book in conjunction with regular chemistry classes and JSEE review sessions according to their learning needs and progress.
Due to limited expertise, this book may contain omissions and imperfections. We sincerely hope for constructive criticism from relevant experts, teachers, and students.
