(1) The hypothesis that the framework of "official authority—local elites—clan organizations" is a reasonable tool for explaining the evolution of China's rural governance patterns, which posits that in the traditional rural governance structure of China, there exist three sets of authority systems: official authority, local elites, and clan organizations. (2) Describes and interprets the grassroots administrative offices above the county level during the late Qing Dynasty, the pseudonymous grassroots governments under Japanese colonial rule, rural self-governance under the Nationalist government, and rural governance in base areas and liberated zones during the democratic revolution. (3) Analyzes the construction and adjustment of the power structure and functions of contemporary rural governance in China. Second, it examines the increase in factors of rural self-governance during the transition period. First, it scans the rural governance environment after the reform and opening-up. Second, it analyzes the characteristics of rural governance structures and systems during the transition period. Third, after reviewing the rise and development of village governance, it examines its physiological and pathological aspects, predicts the development trends of village governance, and highlights the insights of village governance. Third, it describes the ideal model of China's future rural governance structure.
