Collection of Chinese folk songs

Publish Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This "songbook" collects and publishes 283 folk songs from various regions, mainly from the 1930s to 1950s, including those from Northeast, Northwest, North China, as well as Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Inner Mongolia, which were popular in the first half of the 20th century. Since folk song lyrics and melodies are best transmitted orally, some scholars argue that truly authentic folk songs recorded properly are actually quite limited compared to their vast and long-standing existence and abundance. The arrangement of this book follows the regions where the songs were collected, generally organized by province. Some categories group nearby provinces together, such as Northeast folk songs and Northwest folk songs. Shanghai and Jiangsu are geographically and linguistically close, with similar folk song styles, so they are compiled together. If possible, we will continue to compile folk songs from other regions into collections.
