Features: 66 renowned ancient Chinese poems depicting passionate love, longing, resentment, and parting, accompanied by translations by renowned scholars, vividly recreating the original poetic essence. This book selects 66 poems from China's classical literary works. Most of these poems are famous masterpieces, and they are also love poems that are widely cherished by the public. For easier reading and appreciation, we have provided detailed explanations for these poems and analyzed and commented on their English translations, either line by line or in groups of lines. If a poem has multiple translations, we generally choose two to three translations with different styles for comparative analysis. It should be noted that the English translation of Chinese classical poetry is quite challenging, requiring translators to have a comprehensive understanding of both Chinese and Western cultures and a high level of literary proficiency in Chinese literature. This task is often beyond the capabilities of Western scholars, whose translations of Chinese classical poetry often deviate from the original meaning. As a result, to date, the English translation of China's classical poetry has been predominantly undertaken by Chinese scholars. Among them, Xu Yuanchong is undoubtedly the one who has translated the most and with the highest quality. The majority of the selected poems in this book are translations by Xu Yuanchong.
