Features: "The Family Precepts of Zhu Ziqing," also known as "The Family Precepts of Zhu Boylu," or simply "The Family Precepts," was compiled by Zhu Yongchun (styled Zhiyi, self-named Boylu), a Qing Dynasty scholar, based on his lifelong research. With the core ideas of Confucianism's "self-cultivation" and "family governance" as its, it extensively gathers Confucian experiences and methods in human conduct and relationships. "The Family Precepts of Zhu Ziqing" can be said to be a detailed manual for "family governance." Its charm lies in its ability to adopt a gradual and persuasive approach, starting with how to "govern the family" (managing household or family affairs), then connecting it to "self-cultivation," and further extending to the governance of a nation and personal conduct. The content is both profound and accessible, with simple and clear language that presents reasoning in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. "The Enlarged Collection of Wisdom" is another book with a similar purpose to "The Family Precepts of Zhu Ziqing." It can be considered an excellent collection of folk proverbs, most of which teach people how to navigate life, survive, and thrive in real-world situations. This book largely reflects some life principles of the common people in ancient China, as well as certain Taoist or Buddhist approaches to conduct. Therefore, we must adopt a balanced and discerning attitude toward its absorption and rejection. Of course, most of the proverbs in it are still full of wisdom and thought-provoking, making them worth referencing for modern people. I believe that with the multifaceted attention of society and comprehensive guidance from the family, our children will eventually establish their own mature and positive worldview.
