Features: Since 1977, our press has annually compiled and published annual selections of short stories and mid-length stories, which were deeply favored by readers and had a broad influence in both the literary world and among readers. After 1994, this work was temporarily suspended. At the dawn of the 21st century, based on suggestions from literary figures and readers, our press decided to resume the compilation and publication of annual selections of mid-length and short stories to timely summarize the achievements of annual mid-length and short story writing, to introduce outstanding works to readers, and to contribute to the literary heritage of the new century. The revived annual selections of mid-length and short stories are titled 21st Century Annual Novel Selections, symbolizing our unwavering commitment to continuing this work for the long term. 21st Century Annual Novel Selections are divided into mid-length stories and short stories, each published in a separate volume and released in January of the following year. The selection scope covers mid-length and short stories published in newspapers and magazines across the country in the same year, with the order of selected works arranged based on their publication dates. The compilation of 21st Century Annual Novel Selections has been supported and assisted by many renowned literary critics and editors. At the invitation of our press, they conducted in-depth and extensive discussions on the state of mid-length and short story writing in the year, proposing many highly valuable selections. Based on extensive reading and fully considering the experts' opinions, we strictly compiled the selections. Here, we extend our sincere gratitude to all the experts.
