Features: On January 1, 1912, Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary of China, was sworn in as the provisional president, and the Provisional Government of the Republic of China was officially established in the ancient city of Nanjing, a city with six dynasties. That night, the sound of joy echoed under Purple Mountain, and the streets of the city were adorned with colorful lights. The people filled the streets and alleys, and the sound of cannon fire continued without interruption, celebrating the assumption of office of the provisional president—Sun Yat-sen. The establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of China was a historically significant event in modern Chinese history, marking the main milestone of Sun Yat-sen's leadership in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution, which overthrew the feudal monarchy that had ruled China for thousands of years and established a republic. Sun Yat-sen was born on November 12, 1866, into a peasant family in Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province. He once wanted to save the nation and its people by studying medicine, but later felt that "medical skills could only help a limited number of people" and that the best way to heal people was to first heal the country." Therefore, in early 1894, Sun Yat-sen abandoned medicine for politics and began his practical efforts to "reform China's corrupt politics," calling out the slogan "Revive China" with the spirit of "Where my will goes, I will go forward." Despite repeated setbacks, he never gave up and ultimately led the Chinese people through a historic transformation in the course of their modern-century struggles. Not only did he pioneer a modern national democratic revolution, opening the floodgates for China's progress, but he also laid the foundation for the subsequent New Democratic Revolution, playing the role of a pioneer and becoming one of the three great figures of our nation in the 20th century who stood at the forefront of the times. Lenin highly praised Sun Yat-sen for awakening the Chinese people "from slumber to enlightenment" and for "bringing liberation to Asia and undermining the rule of European bourgeoisie." The Xinhai Revolution erected a magnificent milestone in both Chinese and world history, inscribed with an immortal name—Sun Yat-sen. His patriotic achievements and great character, which he devoted his heart and soul to China's freedom, democracy, and prosperity, will forever be admired and celebrated by people. (Cui Shoujun) P3
