Features: This textbook consists of 12 chapters, each covering a communicative topic. The homepage of each chapter briefly describes the English communicative level that PETS-level candidates should achieve. Each chapter is divided into 1-6 units based on the topic, with each unit covering a part of the communicative situations related to the topic. The textbook contains 32 units in total, and each unit includes:
1. Dialogue: Several dialogue materials are provided based on each communicative topic.
2. Text: The text is reading material that reflects the topic.
3. Words and Phrases: Words and phrases are the newly introduced vocabulary and expressions from the dialogue and text of each unit. This section provides the international phonetic alphabet, part of speech, Chinese definition of words, and Chinese definition of phrases.
4. Notes: The notes are targeted at the dialogue and text, covering three aspects:
- Introducing relevant cultural background knowledge to deepen candidates' understanding of the dialogue and text;
- Highlighting difficulties in the dialogue and text from grammatical, lexical, and other perspectives;
- Translating difficult sentences, providing examples to illustrate language points, and expanding candidates' knowledge.
5. Exercises: The exercises are designed based on the topic and key content of each unit, allowing candidates to assess their learning progress.
6. Supplementary Reading: To help candidates gain a deeper understanding of the related topics and improve their reading skills, a supplementary reading passage is provided after each unit.
