Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: The ten volumes of Ancient Divination in the Book of Changes and the twenty volumes of Shang's School of the Book of Changes are based on the annotated edition by Mr. Huang Shouqi and the Zhonghua Book Company edition, supplemented by other printed versions. Special reference is made to Mr. Zhang Shanwen's annotated Collected Works of Shang's School of the Book of Changes for mutual collation, striving for completeness. For example, in Volume 7 of Ancient Divination in the Book of Changes, there are twenty-one entries from Xu Shifeng's Divination Not Reaching the Throne to Confucius's Divination for Shang Qu's Five Sons, which were absent in the original publication. They have now been supplemented based on Collected Works of Shang's School of the Book of Changes, making it complete. Additionally, The Interpretation of the Book of Changes in the Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu has been moved from Shang's School of the Book of Changes to Ancient Divination in the Book of Changes, aiming to connect ancient divination cases from the Spring and Autumn period to the Ming and Qing dynasties in a continuous two thousand-year tradition. The style of The Transmission of the Elder of Zixi and Yu Shengyu's Collected Works of Shang's School of the Book of Changes – The Book of Changes in Shang's School has been revised and included as an appendix at the end of the book, along with one letter by Shang Xiang titled Letters to Huang Zhili and an accompanying preface. Other improvements have also been made, which are not elaborated upon here. The original book was in traditional vertical Chinese characters, but it has now been converted to simplified horizontal Chinese characters. There were many missing characters in the original book, all of which have been supplemented. For instance, in the chronology of the Zuo Zhuan, the original book often omitted the character "" (gong) after the names of rulers such as Zhao Gong (Zhao Duke), Xiang Gong (Xiang Duke), and Heng Gong (Heng Duke), which has now been corrected for easier reference. Similarly, when Shang's text listed the hexagrams Jiji (The Gathering) and Weiji (The Uniting) together, it was often abbreviated as "、," which has now been fully written out. Other corrections have also been made, which are not elaborated upon here.
