Features: What is sketching? Sketching is a monochrome painting that uses tools such as charcoal, pencils, and pens to depict the structure and light and shadow of objects with various types of lines. Sketching is the foundation of all painting and design, and it holds an independent status and value as an art. It uses monochrome lines to express things in the intuitive world and convey the author's thoughts and emotions. Unlike other painting styles that emphasize color, sketching focuses on the depiction of structure and form. Originally, sketching served as a tool for painting and sculpture, but later, due to its fluid, full, and aesthetically pleasing form, it developed into an independent art. The elements of sketching are lines. However, the essence of lines does not exist in reality; they merely represent the boundaries of objects, colors, and planes, serving as the surface through which viewers perceive objects. Artists use the line techniques of sketching to create perfect and refined works through simple outlines. Its charm lies in the way painters use lines to distinguish between three-dimensional and two-dimensional forms, employing language such as monochrome surface color, light and shadow, object structure, and the disappearance or interruption of boundaries. Sketching uses a variety of tools, such as charcoal pencils, pencils, chalk, brushes, and pens. The choice of tools depends on the artistic effect the painter wishes to achieve.
