History of Historiography Reader

Author: Zhang Yue
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: This book specifically addresses issues such as the relationship between Confucian classics and history, the relationship between literature and history, the practical application of historical studies, ancient historical and historiographical theories, the transformation of historical perspective into source consciousness since modern times, the exchange and comparison of Chinese and Western historiography, Chinese Marxist historiography, and case studies of modern historians. These topics are highly valued by researchers, and the study of historiography has shown a vibrant and increasingly in-depth development trend. This is the key consideration when selecting papers for this book. The purpose of selecting these papers lies in their typicality, pioneering nature, diversity, and standardization. Given the editors' limitations, it cannot be said that they fully met the above requirements, but at least they can be considered as striving toward these goals. However, this approach also has shortcomings, such as the omission of some important historians and the historiography of certain eras in the study of Chinese historiography. The number of selected papers on Chinese and Western historiography is also unbalanced. Due to space constraints, many excellent papers could not be included, which is a great regret for the editors. As one means of compensation, several "Reference Works" are listed after each paper, but these are only related to the research content of the selected paper and aim to provide references for interested readers for further reading. They cannot be said to be comprehensive.
