Features: The appreciation of Cymbidium leaves by the Chinese has evolved through a historical process, with its knowledge gradually accumulated. Initially, the appreciation of Cymbidium leaves primarily focused on their linearity, which aligns with the aesthetic principles of Chinese painting and calligraphy. The flexible yet sturdy parabolic-shaped emerald-green leaves of Cymbidium indeed possess a sense of elegance and rhythmic beauty. Regarding the color lines and spots on the leaves, ancient Cymbidium literature rarely documented them. When mentioned, they were often used as criteria for identifying varieties rather than as points of appreciation. The appreciation of color lines and spots on Cymbidium leaves actually originated in Japan. The appreciation points of leaf and plant art in various Cymbidium varieties have become increasingly diverse. To facilitate enthusiasts in identifying, appreciating, and savoring these features, the author was commissioned by Fujian Science and Technology Publishing House to compile this book. Although efforts were made to gather a comprehensive and systematic collection of varieties and to ensure logical coherence in writing for easy reference, gaps in species coverage and omissions in the text are inevitable. Especially in the classification of various leaf art forms, only a general categorization is possible, with the concepts used in classification often being vague in the realm of formal logic. That is, there is often overlap and intersection between different leaf art forms. This point can be understood by readers when referring to the accompanying illustrations while reading. It can be predicted that with the extensive development of Cymbidium resources across various regions and the continuous discovery of new varieties, the appreciation points of leaf art will continue to evolve, with new features emerging. We look forward to this development.
