Features: This book is mainly composed of two parts: Engineering Seismology and Structural Seismic Engineering, divided into four parts and fourteen chapters. Part I is Introduction and Fundamentals. The introductory chapter presents the author's personal insights on the scope of earthquake engineering. Structural dynamics is the main fundamental knowledge of this book, a required course for graduate students in earthquake engineering, with additional lectures. There are already many good books available in China, so this book omits it and only introduces fundamental seismology and random vibration knowledge. The second part is Engineering Seismology, with a focus on Chapter 6, Earthquake Motion. Chapter 4 on earthquake intensity is written in line with China's specific needs. The main purpose of this part is to illustrate that in structural seismic engineering, the focus is now shifting from intensity to directly using earthquake motion. The third part is Structural Seismic Engineering Theory, with a focus and foundation on Chapter 7, Structural Earthquake Response Analysis. Since existing seismic engineering monographs in China have detailed discussions on this topic, this book only provides in-depth introductions to the necessary fundamentals, important concepts, and new developments. This part strives to adhere to the author's fundamental belief that the foundation of earthquake engineering is based on actual earthquake damage experience, strong-motion observation data, and field and laboratory test results. Therefore, this book expands the actual earthquake response of structures and experiments into independent Chapters 9 and 10. The fourth part is the application of earthquake engineering theory, including earthquake hazard analysis and zoning and seismic design.
