Features: With the upcoming leadership transition, the mayor of Yan Yun City at the foot of the Great Wall suddenly falls ill. This sudden event disrupts the planned personnel arrangements of the Provincial Committee and the Municipal Committee, drawing the attention of all factions in the city into this political whirlpool. The common people demand justice for an honest official, corrupt officials seek to seize power, and the younger generation with independent personalities strive to realize their political ambitions. At the center of this whirlpool, Mayor Men Lisheng must fulfill his responsibilities to the higher party committee while also being accountable to the people of this land. Originally, he had dedicated over a decade to this land, achieving remarkable political achievements and a fine reputation, making it possible for him to retire with honor. However, he now must step forward to face the ruthless challenge of this political storm, risking his accumulated political capital, life experience, and personal emotions to ensure a smooth transition of power in Yan Yun City. In doing so, he sacrifices family bonds, friendships, and everything he has accumulated over decades—justice and injustice, the powerful and the ordinary, family and personal gain—creating an unsolvable, sigh-inducing portrait of contemporary society.
Renowned writer Jin Yuanping, following his previous works The Arena of Power and The Platform of Power, spent years in seclusion before passionately releasing this concluding work on the contemporary political ecosystem. As the saying goes, "officials write about official matters," and the author himself has been entangled in the political whirlpool for decades, experiencing the ups and downs of life and the warmth and coldness of the world, knowing all the joys and sorrows.
