Yang Song is 23 years old this year and is currently a sophomore majoring in Journalism and Communication at Zhejiang University of Media and Communications. In 1999, after graduating from vocational school, Yang returned to his hometown. By chance, he learned that someone in his hometown had been infected with the HIV virus through selling blood. What shocked him even more was that part of his tuition fees came from money earned by a relative selling blood! From then on, the issue of AIDS drew Yang Song's strong attention. In the following years, he extensively researched materials on AIDS. In 2004, Yang Song gave up his job to take the college entrance examination and became a student at the Journalism and Communication Department of Zhejiang University of Media and Communications.
After the 2004 college entrance examination, Yang Song conducted field investigations into AIDS in some areas of Henan Province. For this purpose, he used most of the 70,000 yuan he had saved over 5 years of work, aside from paying tuition fees. After more than a year, Yang completed his investigation report. The purpose of writing this book is to tell the world the process of Henan's AIDS epidemic from "extreme concealment—gradual exposure—effective prevention," using the "Henan model" as a blueprint to provide some reference for local governments in other areas with AIDS outbreaks.
