Features: On April 26, 2005, Lian Zhan, the chairman of the Kuomintang, led a delegation from Taipei on an eight-day, seven-night "Peace Journey." This marked the first contact between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China in over fifty-six years. Lian Zhan's wife, Ms. Lian Fangyu, chose to record the journey in the form of a travelogue, documenting her experiences in Nanjing ("Visiting Zhongshan Ling"), Beijing ("Lian-Hu Summit"), Xi'an ("Paying Tribute to Her Grandmother"), Shanghai ("Meeting with Modern Cities"), and the "Bottle Throwing Journey." The book presents an authentic portrayal of the historical of cross-strait exchanges, making it feel as if the reader is witnessing the events firsthand. The ideological divide split China in the 20th century, but half a century later, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China jointly ushered in a new era of peace dialogue. As General Secretary Hu Jintao of the Communist Party of China said, "From the moment the Kuomintang delegation set foot on the mainland, our two parties took a historic step together." This step will undoubtedly be recorded in the annals of cross-strait relations.
