Patient's question:
Please ask if it is normal to have an endometrial thickness of 0.5 cm during the week before the menstrual period.Doctor's answer:
The thickness of the endometrium changes continuously throughout the menstrual cycle. Generally, it is thicker before menstruation and becomes thinner afterward. Immediately after menstruation, the endometrium is usually about 0.4-0.6 cm thick, while before menstruation, it is typically around 0.8-1.3 cm. A thinning of the endometrium may also be caused by low estrogen levels or surgical damage. It is recommended to observe whether there are any menstrual irregularities or abnormal bleeding. Rest is important. This condition may suggest endometrial hyperplasia, which could lead to dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Therefore, follow medical advice and actively undergo follow-up examinations. If the thickness is around 15 mm, a diagnostic (D&C) may be necessary. Avoid sexual activity in the short term to prevent cross-infection.
