Features: Adhering to the principles of the reconstruction of sociological disciplines, guided by Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the Important Thought of "Three Represents," we proceed in the spirit of seeking truth from facts, closely linking with and integrating the major practical issues emerging in the current development of Chinese society. We actively use academic research findings to serve the cause of socialist construction in our country. In our past teaching and research work, we have made efforts to take steps forward. Now, the entire nation is working hard to build a strong socialist country with Chinese characteristics in the 21st century, and our country's system reform and economic development have entered a new historical period. With the development of society, the take-off of the economy, and the continuous deepening of reform and opening-up, a large number of new phenomena have emerged that require our study, and numerous new issues have arisen that demand our analysis. At the same time, due to the interruption of the discipline at one point, there is an increasing need to broaden the foundational work of sociological research, and the responsibility of sociological and anthropological scholars will also become heavier. The burden is great, and the journey is long. Only by striving harder and making continuous efforts can our discipline development adapt to the new requirements of China's reform and development and make the contributions it should.
To learn from and carry forward the academic thoughts and rigorous academic style of the older generation of sociologists and anthropologists, represented by Professor Fei Xiaotong, and to exchange the academic achievements of the younger generation of scholars, we have compiled some of the results from the national social science fund projects we have undertaken since the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" and edited them into the Collected Works of Sociology and Anthropology. From 1996 to 2004, over 40 volumes were published. This series will mainly include survey reports, regional development studies, thematic research findings, and more, which are closely related to major issues in China's social and economic development. It will also focus on the discipline construction of sociology and anthropology, introducing classic theories and the latest research findings at home and abroad in relevant academic theories, research methods, and important thematic studies.
