Features: The teaching requirements for College English Reading in the "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses" (Trial) specify general and higher-level requirements for College English reading teaching. The general requirements are: able to basically read English articles on general topics, with a reading speed of 70 words per minute. When reading longer, slightly lower-difficulty materials quickly, the reading speed reaches 100 words per minute; able to basically read domestic English newspapers and magazines, grasp the main idea, understand the main facts and related details; able to read common application materials in work and life; able to use effective reading methods while reading. The higher requirements are: able to basically read articles on general topics from popular newspapers and magazines in English-speaking countries, with a reading speed of 70 words per minute. When reading longer materials quickly, the reading speed reaches 120 words per minute; able to skim or scan the reading materials; able to read review articles in the field of study, and correctly understand the main idea, grasp the main facts and related details. According to this regulation, we have organized some experienced experts and professors to write this reading textbook. This reading textbook is also an important part of the New Thinking College English series textbooks.
