Patient's question:
My wife had a D&C surgery and after waiting for about a month and 10 days, her period finally came. However, the bleeding was very heavy, as if it couldn't stop! Should we go to the hospital immediately? It's very urgent!!!Doctor's answer:
After a D&C procedure, the endometrium and hormone levels in the body are affected. Although a follow-up ultrasound after the D&C may indicate that the uterus is normal, its function and endocrine function generally take at least three months to fully recover. This is also why menstruation may be irregular in the first month or the following few months after a D&C, potentially being delayed, advanced, or changing in volume (less or more). This condition usually returns to normal within 2–3 months, but for some people, it may last longer. Regular follow-up is sufficient. If the condition persists for an extended period, it is recommended to seek medical examination at a formal hospital to rule out the possibility of organic lesions.
