Publish Date: 2005-10-01
Features: The poems selected in this book are limited to works from the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties period. The scope of the poems collected only includes those that reflect friendly exchanges and sentiments between China and the Korean Peninsula. Works outside this scope are not included. The selected poems primarily come from the Qing-era compiled Complete Tang Poems and Supplementary Collection of Tang Poems, with some additional poems chosen from the works of scholars both domestic and international who have explored and compiled lost or rare Tang poems. The selected poems are striving for reliability, and works suspected of being forgeries are not included. The book is divided into two parts: the first part is the Chinese section, and the second part is the Korean Peninsula section. The order of the selected poems is based on the chronological order of the authors' lives. Each work begins with the original poem, followed by a brief author bio, and ends with annotations. The author bios are based on the Qing-era compiled Complete Tang Poems, Chen Yixin's Revised and Annotated Complete Tang Poems, as well as the research findings of past and present scholars. The annotations in this book are designed to be clear and easy to understand. All historical facts, allusions, previous literary works, and Buddhist or Taoist terms cited are cross-checked with the original sources and their origins are noted. Annotations for difficult characters (including variant forms, archaic characters, colloquial characters, and characters used to avoid taboos) and difficult terms are often illustrated with examples and textual evidence. The names of places and official titles are annotated with their sources.
