Features: It is an ancient song, as old as their race—this song contains the sorrows of countless generations. Buck felt an incredible shock from this mournful melody. When he sighed and groaned, the suffering contained within it was also the suffering experienced by his untamed ancestors; his fear and sense of mystery towards cold and darkness were also the fear and mystery of his ancestors. The fact that the song unsettled him showed that he was retreating from civilized life back to the distant age of savagery.
