How likely is the possibility of ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

I accidentally got pregnant. My period is delayed by 3 or 4 days. I went to the hospital for a check-up and confirmed the pregnancy. The ultrasound did not detect a fetus in the uterus. What is the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy? If so, what should I do? Are there other methods to terminate the pregnancy if it is less than three weeks?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, if you have confirmed pregnancy now and have not seen a gestational sac in the ultrasound examination, ectopic pregnancy cannot be ruled out. However, pregnancy duration is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period. Generally, a gestational sac can be seen around week 6 of pregnancy. Could you please tell me when your last menstrual period was and how many days your menstrual cycle usually lasts? If you have no symptoms now, it may be a good idea to wait a week for a follow-up examination. If it is too early, it may not be visible. If it is confirmed to be an intrauterine pregnancy and you do not want the child, the least invasive option for you would be hysteroscopic evacuation. If it is an ectopic pregnancy, it is best to undergo laparoscopic surgery as soon as possible to preserve your fertility to the greatest extent.
