Chen Ziming (c. 1190–1272), styled Liangfu, also known as Liangfu, and self-named Yao Yin Laoren in his later years, was a native of Linchuan (now Fuzhou, Jiangxi). Born into a family of physicians, he served as a medical professor at Ming Dao College in Jiankang Prefecture (now Nanjing, Jiangsu) during the Jiaxi period (1237–1240). He traveled extensively across southeastern China, always seeking to collect and study medical books wherever he went, and possessed a rich collection of medical texts in his home, which he would review in his spare time. Concerned that medical literature on gynecology lacked a comprehensive framework and was disorganized, making it difficult for physicians to deeply study and explore, he compiled The Comprehensive Manual of Gynecology (24 volumes, 1237), incorporating the best practices from various sources and adding his family's empirical formulas. He also selected and condensed the medical arguments of renowned Southern Song dynasty physicians such as Li Sili, Wu Qiyu, and Zeng Fuxian to create Essentials of Surgery (3 volumes, 1263). Additionally, he worked on the Jufang (also known as The New Compendium of Emergency Treatments or The New Comprehensive Manual of Emergency Treatments) (10 volumes).
