Features: The paper dedicates nearly a chapter with over 20,000 words to examining the characteristics of Jiangnan culture. It traces the topic from jade artifacts unearthed from prehistoric sites to the Sui Dynasty, extensively utilizing research findings from archaeology, social history, and literary arts. Although primarily summarizing existing achievements, it is an indispensable part for understanding the origins of Tang Dynasty Jiangnan culture. The author summarizes the characteristics of Jiangnan culture into two points: First, Jiangnan is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, warm climate, abundant water bodies, and a generally refined and intelligent populace, which is conducive to the arts. This characteristic began to manifest in the ancient jade culture of Jiangnan and became increasingly prominent as the region's economic and cultural status rose over time. Second, "through the long process of adapting to rivers, seas, and oceans, the people of Jiangnan also developed a resilient and indomitable spirit, forming an open-minded, heroic, and brave temperament. Therefore, Jiangnan culture also has a strong and resilient aspect." Consequently, he argues that "while literary culture dominated Jiangnan in the Tang Dynasty, the spirit of martial prowess had not entirely vanished." Although not a groundbreaking insight, it is highly accurate. In the subsequent discussion on how literature in Tang Dynasty Jiangnan pursued innovation as its economic and cultural status rose, this provided a solid foundation.
