International Organizations Manual

Publication Date: 2001-12-25
Features: To meet the needs of researching international issues and conducting foreign affairs, we have rewritten the Handbook of International Organizations. The previous edition of the Handbook of International Organizations was published in 1986, over a decade ago. During this time, the world has undergone tremendous changes, with many new organizations emerging while some old ones have ceased to function as their missions were completed. As a result, the outdated Handbook of International Organizations can no longer meet today's needs. With the aim of providing users with newly valuable international organizations, we have removed organizations that are outdated or of limited use from the previous edition and have added numerous new and widely used global, international, regional, and subregional organizations, including those established in 1996, making this handbook more valuable and authoritative. In terms of writing, we emphasize accuracy and standardization. In terms of format, in addition to retaining the original entries such as headquarters location, founding date, purpose, structure, key personnel, main activities, membership, publications, and China relations, we have added French names and other original names, supplemented with the foreign addresses and telephone, telex, and fax numbers of the organizations. For the purpose and main activities entries, we have presented them more accurately and in greater detail this time to help users understand the true nature and role of these organizations. Currently, there are tens of thousands of organizations of various sizes worldwide, but due to space constraints, we have only selected about 2,000 of them. Similarly, to save space, in the "Membership" entries, we no longer list all member names but only indicate the number of members. To facilitate readers in finding Chinese names from foreign names, we have included English, French names, and a foreign index. Due to limitations in information and lack of experience, errors and inaccuracies may inevitably occur in the book. We welcome readers' criticism and corrections.
