Features: Chongqing Publishing House allocated 1 million yuan in 1988 to revitalize the publication of scientific works in China, becoming the first to establish the Chongqing Publishing House Scientific Academic Works Publishing Fund. At the same time, it invited numerous renowned scientists and experts to form the Fund's Advisory Committee. This fund is specifically used to support the publication of academic works in natural and social sciences that are at home or internationally advanced. By 2003, the fund had accumulated to 3 million yuan. Starting in 2004, an additional 1 million yuan was added annually until 2010, when the total fund reached 10 million yuan to continue supporting the publication of more outstanding scientific academic works.
This book consists of four chapters: "Etymology and Etymology," "Principles of Etymology," "Structural Relationships within Word Families," and "Research Methods in Etymology." It is rich in material and strong in theory. Through the analysis of specific etymological phenomena, the author connects words with close phonetic and semantic relationships within the same word family to establish word families of varying sizes, thereby developing his theoretical research framework. He also innovatively designed a hierarchical, precisely defined, and highly analytical system of etymological conceptual terminology, clearly elucidating the intrinsic laws of etymology. At the same time, he effectively introduced historical-comparative linguistics into etymological research, making significant contributions to the establishment of etymology as an independent discipline distinct from lexicology and semantic studies.
