Features: With the promulgation of the "Basic Requirements for College English Curriculum," and the continuous deepening of reforms in college English teaching, universities have been exploring and reforming in various aspects such as teaching models, methods, course design, and testing. To adapt to these reform needs and achieve the teaching goals of cultivating students' comprehensive language application skills and autonomous learning abilities, while strengthening guidance on students' autonomous learning and integrating classroom teaching with out-of-class autonomous learning, we organized a group of core teaching staff to compile this series of self-access learning guidance books. This series includes content such as textbook learning guides, vocabulary manuals, skill training, and cultural knowledge guidance. Guided by the "Basic Requirements for College English Curriculum," this series emphasizes the cultivation and improvement of students' comprehensive language skills and autonomous learning abilities. During the writing process, we organically combined language learning with cultural learning and included a large number of exercises to assess students' learning outcomes. Additionally, we carefully selected from the CET-4 and CET-6 exams to better help students improve their language application skills and achieve ideal learning results.
The "Textbook Learning Guide" (Volumes 1-4) mainly consists of the following 12 sections:
1. Learning Objectives and Requirements. This section provides students with the key vocabulary, phrases, sentence structures, and basic language skills they should master in each unit, aiming to help them stay focused and targeted during autonomous learning.
2. Pre-class Preview Guidance. This section proposes specific requirements for students before class and during autonomous learning to facilitate better collaboration between teachers and students in the classroom, enabling students to participate more effectively in teaching and achieving the best possible learning outcomes with limited teaching time.
3. Introduction to Cultural Background Knowledge. This section aims to organically combine language knowledge with cultural background knowledge, allowing students to acquire cultural knowledge while learning the language. Language learning cannot be separated from cultural acquisition; only by understanding relevant cultural knowledge can students better grasp language skills and apply them more appropriately.
4. Text Appreciation and Writing Style. To help students better appreciate the texts and master writing skills, this section introduces the writing characteristics and stylistic features of Text A in each unit of the textbook.
5. Key and Difficult Point Analysis of Text A. This section explains the key and difficult points of Text A, including vocabulary, sentence structures, passages, and related cultural knowledge. In line with the principle of broadening students' knowledge and inspiring their imagination, in addition to clarifying the definitions and usage of relevant vocabulary in the text, this section also introduces other key definitions and usage, as well as related synonyms/antonyms, distinctions, and derived knowledge.
6. Collocations of Phrases to Memorize. This section not only helps students memorize certain phrases and collocations but also reminds them to pay attention to English and Chinese expression differences.
7. Translation of Text A. This section provides a reference translation of Text A.
8. Answers to Text A Exercises. This section offers answers to the text exercises for students to refer to, but no annotations are provided. We believe that exercises are one of the effective means of assessing students' autonomous learning outcomes. During autonomous learning, students should not only know "what" but also understand "why." If students fail to grasp the "why," they need guidance and assistance from teachers, who should be approached in class or on the BBS forum to receive help and answers, thereby truly mastering the relevant language knowledge and skills.
9. Key and Difficult Point Analysis of Text B. This section mainly explains the key vocabulary, phrases, and difficult sentence analysis of Text B.
10. Translation of Text B. This section provides a reference translation of Text B.
11. (CET-4 and CET-6 Past Exam Questions). This section summarizes past CET-4 and CET-6 exam questions and selects some related to the unit's learning content, along with their detailed explanations, for students to practice. The purpose is twofold: to test students' learning outcomes and to emphasize the importance of text learning.
12. Unit Self-Assessment. This section includes supplementary exercises designed around the text content, covering vocabulary, grammar, reading, short answers, and cloze tests. All exercises are designed in line with the "Basic Requirements for College English Curriculum" and the question types of the national CET-4 and CET-6 exams, including some past CET-4 and CET-6 exam questions to help students familiarize themselves with the format and assess their learning outcomes.
This book is the (supporting material) for the new edition of "College English (Comprehensive Course)" ( volumes). It introduces the key and difficult points of "College English" and provides numerous examples to illustrate them, along with a wealth of exercises for students to practice.
