Features: Chinese traditional culture is profound and all-encompassing, encompassing a vast array of content. As a part of traditional culture, ancient Chinese sports customs are also numerous and inexhaustible. Especially in the vast territories of unified dynasties with diverse ethnic groups, sports customs shaped by different climates, geographical environments, and ethnic personalities are even more colorful and shine in the annals of cultural history. The sports customs listed in our book, though mostly popular during the rule of Central Plains dynasties, are in fact the essence of sports customs from various regions at that time or in history, as well as the product of ethnic cultural exchange and integration. However, during the long feudal autocratic era, due to political, military, or ideological reasons, some projects have evolved or disappeared from time to time. Upon a close examination of ancient Chinese sports customs, despite their complex changes, it is not difficult to see their distinct characteristics—namely, a strong political and military flavor.
