Works Appreciation of Calligraphers with Less Characters: Series of Appreciation of Famous Chinese Calligraphy Works

Author: Shen Honggen
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-10-20
Features: Fewer characters in calligraphy, as the main text has fewer characters, so the letters are written very large, also known as large-character calligraphy. It includes large-character calligraphy like the bold "baituo" style. If categorized by brush and ink techniques, it can be divided into two schools: traditional and modern. Traditional fewer-character calligraphy is either steady as a mountain or lively as a tiger, adhering to rules, emphasizing momentum and spirit. Modern fewer-character calligraphy is influenced by Western abstract art, with innovative techniques and clever concepts, highlighting meaningful forms. However, whether it is traditional or modern fewer-character calligraphy, it is still a carrier of Chinese characters and must emphasize brush and ink skills. If it is not written in Chinese characters, or if brush and ink are zero, it is no longer calligraphy. Without calligraphy, aesthetic value is lost; without aesthetic value, there is no appreciation. This book focuses on appreciating the works of Chinese and ancient calligraphers. As for the works of Japanese calligraphers, since the author has already introduced and reviewed them extensively in "Appreciation of Calligraphy Works by Overseas Masters," this book only touches on them lightly.
