Features: With the rapid economic growth of China and the continuous improvement of income levels for both urban and rural residents, the demand for cultural products and services will grow faster than the demand for material products. In economic terms, cultural products have a higher income elasticity of demand. This has been proven by the experience of developed countries worldwide and also by empirical data on household income and consumption in China since its reform and opening-up. Currently, the overall macroeconomic situation in China still suffers from insufficient effective demand. However, many have noticed that while production capacity in many sectors of China's manufacturing industry is relatively surplus, the supply of non-material products still fails to meet the needs of the majority of households. For example, higher education is a typical case in this regard. Developing the cultural industry can strongly boost China's economic growth, allowing the country's industrial supply structure to better adapt to changing demand structures, thereby improving China's macroeconomic efficiency. The achievements China has made in the past two decades of reform and opening-up, its vast population size and market potential, its profound traditional cultural heritage, and its abundant resources in human capital have all provided extremely favorable conditions for accelerating the development of the cultural industry. Of course, the development of China's cultural industry still needs to explore a path that aligns with global trends while embodying Chinese characteristics, including the competitive strategy of the cultural industry. China is an ancient civilization with a long history. We must integrate the cultural resources of the Chinese nation with various high-quality capital, technology, patents, talent, brands, and more to optimize, refine, and enhance them, forming strong competitiveness in the cultural industry. This will contribute to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the advancement of human civilization. The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences places high importance on research in the cultural industry and continuously releases influential theoretical and decision-making research results in this field. The Cultural Industry Competitiveness Research, led by Researcher Hua Jian and involving multidisciplinary experts, is one of the key projects supported by the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund of China undertaken by our academy. What is now presented to you is the research outcomes of this project. The findings, divided into seven chapters, provide an in-depth and systematic analysis of the significance of cultural industry competitiveness, the core capabilities of the cultural industry, the optimization of cultural industry factors, the international landscape of the cultural industry, regional integration in the cultural industry, the enhancement of cultural industry strength, and the development strategy of the cultural industry. This is one of the forefront works in China on the competitiveness and competitive strategies of the cultural industry. The work is a serious academic research publication, collecting numerous vivid cases of the development of the cultural industry worldwide, illustrated with images and text, making it a valuable read for scholars, government officials, entrepreneurs, and others concerned with the development of China's cultural industry and its international competitiveness.
