Features: Proven through years of teaching practice: Learners using these three textbooks for Japanese will, after a systematic two-year study of four textbooks, develop solid basic Japanese skills, strong listening and speaking abilities, clear grammar concepts, and a considerable understanding of Japan's history, culture, and society. Most students will be able to achieve the language proficiency required to pass the Japan Foundation Level 1 test. This book consists of 16 lessons, each primarily composed of the following seven sections:
[]—The core and focus of the textbook. All conversational texts are self-written by the authors. The writing principle is to adhere to the teaching method of prioritizing listening and speaking, with content close to daily life, practical and healthy, language standardized, emphasizing oral skills, and applying what is learned in real-life situations.
[]—A supplement to [], designed to enhance students' narrative and summarization skills and train them in handling more complex conversations. It also appropriately adds necessary vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns.
[]—Arranged in the order of appearance in the lessons, with tones, parts of speech, and meanings indicated. Meanings are primarily based on usage in the texts, aiming for conciseness. To meet the vocabulary requirements of the educational syllabus, frequently used words not appearing in the texts are supplemented through sentence patterns, grammar, and exercises, and are also included in []. The three sections of this book—[], [の], and []—contain a total of 1,997 words, all of which are essential for mastery.
[]—Grammar is explained as it appears and summarized systematically after some time. Grammar terms and part-of-speech classifications follow the uniform terminology of the educational syllabus, with annotations in some cases. Major grammatical items such as particles, auxiliary verbs, adverbs, connectors, and honorific language are introduced, explained, and summarized. The grammar explanations reference and incorporate new findings from domestic and international grammar research.
[]—Sentence patterns are explained from aspects such as meaning, form, connection, and Chinese translation, highlighting patterns and providing typical examples. This book introduces 99 sentence patterns, requiring full mastery and flexible application.
[の]—Difficult words, culturally specific Japanese words, easily misused words, words with similar meanings but different usages, and even words with significantly different meanings are explained, summarized, compared, and annotated to facilitate correct understanding and application.
[]—Exercises are essential for mastering and internalizing the lessons. Therefore, when designing and creating them, diversity, coverage, and scientific rigor were fully considered, aiming for a large volume and broad scope. They include grammar points, sentence patterns, vocabulary usage, and lesson content, with both written and oral exercises. For teaching convenience, answers are appended at the end of the book. Readers needing exercise answers and audio cassettes should contact the Japanese Department of Beijing Second Foreign Languages University directly.
At the end of the book, there are [] (Master Vocabulary List) and [] (Sentence Pattern List) for reference. The entire course is designed to be completed in 192 class hours.
