Recalling our childhood, we have all learned the lesson that one must be honest and not lie from the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." From reading "Zengzi Keeps His Promise," we understand that one should keep their word, even to a child. The story "The Blind Man Touching an Elephant" teaches us to see things holistically and not just focus on a part. Later, we learned that these stories are called "fables."
Fables are one of the oldest literary genres in the world. They typically use fictional stories or personification of natural elements to convey moral lessons. Like proverbs and poetry, fables are gems in the treasure trove of human literature, embodying the wisdom of all nations. What makes fables enduringly charming is that anyone can derive joy or enlightenment from them. Many excellent fables have had a profound impact on people.
This collection, "Selected Fables," includes 156 fables, carefully chosen from the vast treasury of fables from around the world. These classic fables are selected from ancient Chinese fables, Aesop's Fables from ancient Greece, La Fontaine's Fables from France, Lessing's Fables from Germany, and Krylov's Fables from Russia. The editor strives to tell these captivating stories in simple language and has designed two sections for each fable: "Remember This" (summarizing the moral) and "Think About It" (simple questions that children can find answers to within the story). This is done to help children better understand.
We hope that our efforts will be recognized by parents, and we also hope that these stories will benefit children.
