Author's Self-Introduction: My writing has always been accompanied by my daughter's growth. When she was young, I wrote many cute and mischievous stories, accompanying her in a warm and joyful life. Now she is in fifth grade, like her peers, she has both hardships and joys, and her own opinions. They need reading materials that are close to life yet fulfill their fantasies. So, I wrote this campus fairy tale for my daughter and all primary school students.
Excerpt: Renting Time
The young man, twenty-two, quickly spent five hundred yuan in the electronic game hall. "It's nothing," he comforted himself, "I'm still young!" "I'll rent another ten years of time."
The young man returned to the place where he had met Mier, which was the route she took every day to buy groceries. He thought he could definitely catch her here. Soon, Mier came hurriedly with her vegetable basket. "Auntie!" the young man shouted. Mier looked at him blankly. Suddenly, the young man realized he was already twenty-two and calling Mier "Auntie" was a bit ridiculous. He quickly corrected himself and called her "older sister."
"You regret it now, looking for me to rent time?" "How could I regret?" the young man smiled casually. "I came to find you because I still want to rent ten years of time from you."
"What? You still want to rent time?" Mier thought he was crazy. "What's the matter? I'm still young, only twenty-two!" Mier grabbed the young man's hand and earnestly said, "Do you know that life is limited, and time is limited too. You can't waste time like this!"
The young man said, "I don't have money, but I have time. Trading time for some money can't be called wasting."
"You can earn money through labor." "Labor?" the young man sneered. "Labor is too hard. Where is it easier and simpler than renting time?"
Seeing that the young man was stubborn, Mier glared fiercely at him: "Alright, I'll rent you another ten years of time." With that, she threw down five hundred yuan and left.
With the five hundred yuan, the young man immediately aged ten years. The thirty-two-year-old old young man quickly spent all his money in the electronic game hall again. What to do? The thirty-two-year-old old young man didn't dare to say he was still young anymore. People say that at thirty, one should have established themselves, but he was already thirty-two and had achieved nothing. He had to plan for the future.
The old young man remembered Mier's warning and decided to find something to do. Of course, he wanted something easy to start with—maybe a white-collar job. The old young man walked into a company and boldly said to the boss, "I'm ready to work now. Give me a job!"
The boss gave him a dirty look. "Why should I give you a job just because you're willing to work?" "What? Is it wrong that I'm willing to work?" The old young man argued. "Alright, tell me about your resume." "Resume?" The old young man blinked. "What resume?" "Did you go to university?" "No." "High school?" "No." "Junior high?" The old young man shook his head. "Elementary school?" The boss was almost screaming. "Did you even finish elementary school?" "I did, but I didn't graduate." "Get out!" The boss pointed to a door, and the old young man walked out through it.
White-collar jobs didn't work, so he tried a blue-collar job. The old young man went to a construction site and boldly said to the foreman, "Give me a job to do."
The foreman looked him up and down, then back again, and asked, "What can you do?" The old young man stared blankly at the foreman. "Why are you staring at me? I'm asking you!" The foreman yelled. "Can you do bricklaying, masonry, carpentry, or mechanical work?" The old young man shook his head like a pendulum. "Then why did you come here?" The old young man said pitifully, "At least I can move bricks and carry prefabricated panels."
"Like this body?" The foreman pinched the old young man's shoulder. "You look like a child. The old young man got angry. "I'm already thirty-two!" "Get out!" The foreman chased him out. "A thirty-two-year-old who can't do anything is a idiot!"
