The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, abbreviated as the Inner Canon, was originally in 18 volumes. Nine of these volumes are titled Basic Questions (Suwen), while the other nine lack a specific title. During the Han and Jin dynasties, it was known as the Nine Volumes or the Needle Classic (Zhenjing), and after the Tang Dynasty, it was called the Spiritual Pivot (Lingshu). It was not the work of a single author or from a single period, with its main parts formed during the Warring States period. It emphasizes the holistic concept, stressing both the unity of the human body and the close relationship between humans and their natural environment. The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon holds a high status in Chinese medicine, and all later generations of medical achievements have placed great importance on it. Parts of the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon have been translated into Japanese, English, German, French, and other languages, and it has had a significant impact on the development of world medicine.
