[Preface] Wood drying is a crucial process in wood processing production. Properly dried wood can enhance its mechanical strength and dimensional stability of wood products, prevent decay, mold, insect damage, and reduce losses such as cracking and deformation. It can also improve the decorative effect and adhesion of paint and glue. Therefore, wood drying is an important measure to improve wood utilization and conserve wood. With the rapid development of China's economy, the demand for wood has been increasing, making wood drying more prominent in importance. As a result, the task of the wood drying industry is quite challenging. This book systematically introduces the basic knowledge of wood drying, the principles, classification, structure, operation, drying processes, maintenance, and process control of conventional drying equipment. It provides a detailed introduction to dehumidification drying and solar drying, as well as brief introductions to atmospheric drying, vacuum drying, microwave and high-frequency drying, and the selection and evaluation of drying equipment. It is hoped that the publication of this book will help improve the professional skills of grassroots personnel in the wood drying field and contribute to the technological advancement of wood drying in China. This book can serve as a reference manual for engineering technicians in the wood drying field, a training manual for technical workers, and a reference for faculty and researchers in relevant colleges and research institutions. The book is practical and oriented toward grassroots users. It simplifies complex theoretical descriptions and uses easy-to-understand language. Basic theories, drying processes, and chart applications are explained through examples. This book is the first to introduce fault analysis, maintenance, and operational guidelines for dehumidification drying equipment. Structural diagrams or pictures are provided for various drying equipment and testing instruments. Common charts and drying processes for wood drying are included in the book or appendix.
